Toss: WOOBURN elected to bat
Having lost the toss and being put into field, the Chesham Bois attack set about a pretty strong Wooburn batting line-up on a progressively slower and lower wicket. Matt opened and was his usual pacy and frugal self on his way to 6-1-19-2. Ben joined him in the opening partnership and removing their free scoring opener on his way to 6-0-46-1. Peter (8-0-40-1) and Uma (8-0-32-6), who was on fire with the ball, finished off their innings in only 28 overs for 142 runs. A great effort by the attack but still a challenging target on that wicket.
In reply, Alex was an early victim to the variable bounce, top edging a cut shot. Paul showed glimpses of form, timing a few shots nicely on his way to 13. David departed shortly afterwards leading to they key partnership between Gaurav (48) and Uma (19). Gaurav combined patience and aggression as he carefully managed his shot selection against an attack that was annoyingly short on pace. When Gaurav fell, our slightly undercooked middle order was exposed with Tom V, Konesh, Matt and Ben all lacking of time in the middle recently. Uma was the last of 4 wickets to fall with the score on 99 as he attempted to attack his way out of trouble.
We lost but we played well, caught all our catches, were competitive and with a bit more preparation, I could easily see us coming out on the other side of this result.
