Having lost the toss but been put into bat nevertheless, Paul(34) and Alex(10) got us off to a solid start with Paul returning his highest score of the season so far. Areeb arrived in the 5th over and we were very pleased to have him, Ollie and Sachin back following their educational related breaks. It might be an understatement to say that Areeb exceeded both his own and our expectations, as he ended on a unbeaten on a career high 119, finally retiring with a few overs left. The wicket was offering a little uneven bounce and lateral movement at times as Uma(4), Gaurav(50) and Bennett found out to their cost, another 50 for Uma to add to his recent tally of runs. Ollie pushed the score along nicely before not quite getting hold of one in his 27. Prakash made a useful looking 15 as finally Vinoth(1) was left high and dry as both Sachin(1) and the skipper (1 less than Sachin) fell in the last over. 287 all out, pretty handy.
We know Wooburn can bat as they hold the record chase score against us whilst chasing our own record score. Sachin (8-0-40-2) and Vinoth (3-0-31-2) picked up useful early wickets as Wooburn set about chasing the total down. Whilst I felt we always had the edge, we still needed to wary of their ability to score runs quickly. Gaurav(6-0-35-1) and Uma (4-0-17-2) gave us some control whilst handily taking a few wickets. Prakash (4-0-24-0) bowled well but without any luck. Areeb proved he was human after all as he bowled himself to a standstill going for 46 off his 3 overs while trying to defend the short boundary. Ollie meanwhile, tied, nailed, bolted and welded the other end down, taking 3 wickets for 11 runs off his six overs. Wooburn ended 232 all out in 34 overs and it was another really enjoyable game to play against a great bunch of cricketers.
