Result: Lost by 9 runs
Toss: Pimlico Strollers elected to bat
Generally in cricket, it is better to bat first, post a total and then you know what to defend. In fact, the pretty much the story as we once again welcomed the Strollers of Pimlico to the common.
With the skipper in Spain (again!!), Guarav took up the reins, with predictable success (or lack of) at the toss. The result.. we were fielding.
With two debutants - Naveen and Vish's Dad (aka Dipen) - we took to the field in pretty cold conditions! Uma (1-22) took an early wicket, before a big partnership steadied the ship. Naveen (4-36) and Vish (2-56) managed to pull us back as the Strollers finished on 206-7 from their 35 overs.
206 - a good target - getable, defendable, which was it to be?
In reply, Alex fell for 6, before our first hundred partnership of the season between Hassain and Paul, ended with the Chairman bizarrely being run out for 24. Ali was then run out, by his son, for 9, Uma and Guarav came and went! Trying to reach the boundary, Hassain finally fell for a career best 90, and despite the best efforts of Naveen and Vish, we finished 9 runs short.
Pimlico gave a masterclass in how to defend a total - push the fielders back making scoring boundaries difficult, restrict the batsmen to singles and stop everything! Well done to them, but after the last couple of games, it was good to have a close game.
