Toss: CBCC elected to bat
Batting first, by agreement rather than a toss, Alex (16) and Luke (68) got us off to a brisk start with Alex particularly taking on the openers. Pankaj (9) joined Luke with the score on 31 and was again keen to keep the fielders busy before he was inadvertently stumped in the 11th over with the score on 59. Gaurav scored 12 including a swatted 6 back over the bowlers head before nicking one to the keeper, and was surprisingly followed by Luke, bowled, who had looked untroubled up to that point. That bought together Hussain (56 NO) and Akshay (31) who guided us past the 200 mark before Akshay was narrowly run out going for one too many runs in the last over. Great knock by Hussain helping us close on a healthy 211 off our 35 overs.
In reply, Hussain (5-1-2-11) and Sajid (6-1-3-18) made their task a little more tricky as they were reduced to 29-5 after 6 overs. Their middle order solidified after that as Gaurav (7-0-0-28) and Akshay (7-0-1-27) kept the score rate below what they needed before Akshay removed one of their key batsmen towards the end of his spell. Luke (3-0-2-13) accounted for their top scoring batsman as along with Haider (5-0-1-23) snuffed out any realistic chance of them chasing down the runs as Pankaj (2-0-0-5) and Haider bowled out the final overs leaving them over 50 runs short of their target.
A great days cricket and a really enjoyable game. Great wicket on a great ground played in great spirit by both teams.
