Toss: Wendover elected to bowl
Soho had to sadly pull out of the original fixture and Wendover popped up as a replacement opposition. They looked a useful side and whilst we weren’t at our strongest in bowling, we had bolstered our batting with the handy addition of Billy.
We lost the toss but were still asked to bat. Paul (51) and Alex opened with Alex out early chasing a wide one. Billy joined Paul and took the score 113 before Billy was out on the last ball before drinks for a well crafted 49.
Paul was out with the score on 124 and Uma (21) followed at 152 in the 27th over. Gaurav and Hussain took up the challenge with Hussain run out for 18 at the 240 run mark, which left Gaurav in the 90’s chasing his hundred. On 94 and having turned down a run off the 3rd and 2nd last deliveries, Gaurav reached his 100 by putting the final delivery of the innings into the trees. 272 for 6, a very competitive total.
In reply Rudy (5-0-27-0) and Billy (8-0-47-2) kept Wendover reasonably quiet with Billy going for 24 off his first 6 overs. Hussain (7-0-47-0) and Ollie (8-0-47-0) started to feel the heat as Wendover looked to accelerate towards the end of their spells. Ashay (3-0-25-0) bowled well in his spell even though the batsmen were looking to score quickly. Uma (5.2-0-43-1) and Gaurav (3-0-1-36) felt the full force of their attack as they tried to contain them in the final overs with Billy also returning to bowl his final 2. The loss by 6 wickets doesn’t tell the full story of the game as Wendover reached their target with 4 balls left. Another cracking game of cricket but sadly we were on the wrong side of the result this time. We batted well and would certainly be happy with 272 as a total in any game. Not our best fielding performance of the year, but we didn’t give many runs away due to mis fields.
Great match and what a great bunch the Wendover team are. Hopefully the fixture secretary can sort us out a permanent fixture going forward.
