24/07 v Chesham (Home)

Updated: Aug 9

Result: Lost by 5 wickets

Toss: CBCC elected to bat

Having not lost the toss, our stand-in skipper, Paul Withams, elected to bat on a warm and sunny day. Paul and Rajiv were quickly into their strides with Rajiv particularly making up for lost time from last weeks game. When Paul departed for 31, the score was a healthy 103 off just 15 overs. Rajiv was joined by Alex before he himself was out for 80, picking out the fielder at long on. This bought Uma to the crease before Alex was out stumped for 27 with the score now on 211 off 33 overs. Gaurav joined Uma and they ensured the last 7 overs went for over 10 and over with Uma finishing on 82n.o. and Gaurav 44n.o. A great batting performance which we would be happy with any week.

In reply, the batting qualities of the Chesham team were soon on show although we did ultimately take more of their wickets than they did of ours. Vish (7-0-56-0) and Uma (6-0-34-1) bore the brunt of their initial assault. Peter (8-0-64-2) was our most successful wicket taker whilst Ollie (7-0-26-1) was his usual economic self in the face of some good batting whilst still getting his wicket. Akshay was the unfortunate bowler who finished the game as he dusted off his whites for the first time this season.

It was good fun game to play in against a great bunch of players. We lost but we played well against a better team, and if we play that every week I don’t think we’ll be too unhappy and we wouldn’t be too far off winning either.
