Toss: CB elected to bat!!

The skippers 100% (losing) run on the toss came to an end and he duly elected to bat, the opposition would have bowled anyway. The rain largely stayed away during the day but batting was challenging with movement both through the air and off the wicket. Rajiv (4) and Alex (2) were soon back in the clubhouse. Luke (13) was joined by Uma who then set about anchoring the innings. Lukes departure saw the welcome sight of Gaurav (36) walking to the wicket and together they took us into 3 figures. 200 would have been a good score but the batting conditions made that an unrealistic target. As Gaurav and ultimately Uma departed for 69, Areeb (22 N.O) skilfully marshalled the tail to get us up to 176 for 9 in our 40 overs.

In reply, Rajiv (7-1-18-0) and Rudy (4-0-28-0) kicked off our defence of the total with Rajiv being particularly frugal. Akshay (5-0-40-0) and Areeb (8-1-15-1) then took up the challenge with Areeb proving even more miserly than Rajiv as well as removing one of the openers. In spite of this, Chenies were well set reaching 100 for 1 after 24 overs, needing 77 0ff 16 overs at 4.8 runs per over with 9 wickets remaining. Uma and Luke were introduced at this point, and between them, they turned the game around. Uma took 6 wickets for 27 runs in his 8 overs, and whilst Luke was wicketless in his 8 overs for 40 with 1 maiden, he was certainly fully engaged in the match taking 2 excellent catches as well as 1 run out along with breaking a few speed records as he ran and threw himself at any ball which came within his radar range. They were well supported by the rest of the team in a tidy fielding performance, even a reduced mobility Tom was instrumental in saving more runs than the ultimate 9 run winning margin. Chenies & Latimer closed on 167 for 9 in an enjoyable match played in great spirit by both teams.
