Result: Won by 117 runs
Toss: CBCC elected to bat
A return to winning ways on Sunday. Soho lost the toss and Chesham Bois elected to bat. Gaurav partnered with Paul to open our innings and Gaurav was quickly into his stride. He was looking to score seriously big until the skipper broke the news that he’d agreed with the opposing captain that anyone scoring 100 had to retire. Undeterred by this, Gaurav battered the opposition before retiring on 102 with the score on 150. Paul followed soon after for a well crafted 32 and Rajiv and Uma continued the attack. Rajiv (28) didn’t quite clear long on leaving Uma to marshall a mini collapse as Alex, Tom (6) and Akshay (7) fell early in the pursuit of runs. Uma was then joined by Ollie before falling LBW himself just 5 runs shy of his 50. The field was bought up close for Ollie initially but soon spread as he hit 4 fours on his way to 27 not out. Jed (11- how did he manage double figures!!??) was the last wicket to fall off the last ball of the 40 overs as Chesham Bois posted a healthy 291 for 9.
In reply, Soho made a steady but solid start as Akshay (5-1-23-0) and Ollie (8-1-34-2) opened our attack. Rajiv (8-0-33-2) and Uma (8-0-40-2) were key to removing any threat that may have existed as they removed both openers and a couple more wickets to leave Soho on 125-4 at the end of their spells with only 14 overs remaining. Ollie returned to pick up a couple of wickets as Tom (3-0-16-1) claimed his first wicket for Chesham Bois with a slightly unconventional caught and bowled, taking the catch closer to the cover region than the wicket (not that he didn’t trust any of the rest of the team to catch it). Alex chipped in with a couple of overs as Gaurav (2-0-10-2) finished off the remaining wickets just in case there may have been any lingering doubt about who the player of the match was. Soho finished on 174 which is a good score on most days and it was good to see the wicket playing well with a mostly true and even bounce which should be even better next season. Always good to welcome our old friends from Soho.
