Toss: CBCC elected to bat
With Jed off in Spain (again), stand-in-skipper Paul actually managed to win the toss and on a gloriously sunny afternoon elected to bat. Our opening partnership accumalted 130 before Paul was caught trying to hit a six (really..??) for 51 (63 balls). Luke then was joined by Alex before falling six short of his hundred - 94 from 89 balls. The scene was then set for Guarav, who raced to 50 from only 22 balls, and Alex to put on 144 for the third wicket. Alex, playing his usual array of shots scored an undefeated 43 (45 balls). After turning down a single in the 39th over (and then playing and missing the next four!), Guarav finished on 99 not out, from only 46 balls. Our total of 300 is the third highest in the club's history.
In reply, Ley Hill were always going to be up against it, especially as Vish took another one handed diving catch off his own bowling - we won't mention the dolly he dropped the next ball! Sajid (1-23) made the initial breakthrough, with wickets then falling at regular intervals. All the bowlers contibuted: Vish 2-15, Matt 2-16, Akshay 2-19, Uma 1-12 and even regular wicketkeeper, Ali, somehow managed to grab the last wicket (1-27). Add to that a run out from Uma, some good catching, and a solid debut from Elliot, Ley Hill were all out for 125.
Finally, we have actually managed to play at Ley Hill, a lovely ground, after the two previous wash outs - and a special mention to Paul Green's sausage sandwiches!!
