Question of the day - Why in 30 degrees heat do cricketers wear long trousers and in 2 degrees footballers wear shorts? Also, why does the skipper never win the toss on these scorching hot days? Well, on this occasion, he did!!!

Chesham Bois got off to a quiet start with Paul (14), Gaurav (9) and Vernon (13) departing to leave us on 44-4. Ali and Uma (48) steadied the middle of the innings with a partnership of 81, with Ali being joined by Konesh (12) to add another 52 runs. Akshay and Peter sacrificed themselves in the run frenzy at the end and Ali finished on 62 not out.

Matt (8-1-27-3) and Akshay (7-1-27-1) kept it tight in their opening spells with Matt picking up 2 wickets and Akshay 1. Uma (7-1-21-0) and Peter (8-1-29-0) managed the middle overs as their two highest scoring batsmen dug in. Gaurav (5-0-32-0) and Vernon (5-0-36-1) were bowling as their batsmen looked to up the scoring rate a little with Vernon breaking their partnership along the way. Matt returned and immediately picked up a wicket but didn’t manage to shift their top scoring batsman. This left Uma and Akshay to finish the innings with the dubious honour of the last over falling to Akshay, needing only 4 runs to win. What followed was a pretty decent over by any standard with Chenies only scraping over the line on the last ball.

A great game to play in which would only have been better if we’d been on the other side of the result.
