Toss: CB elected to bat
A very dominant win on Sunday and I’m struggling to remember a better all-round team performance. Batting first in a 35 over game, which promised to be cut short by a bad weather forecast, we posted 199 in our 35 overs. Our openers, Paul (62) and Alex (44) took us well past 70 for the first wicket at a very healthy scoring rate of 5 an over. Given that base, the middle order pushed on with Mark (18) Gaurav (14) and Peter (35 N.O.) helping to get us up to 199, which is an excellent score off only 35 overs.
In reply, Bovingdon were doomed from the start. Our openers Matt 7-5-4-2 (yes that is 7 overs 5 maidens 4 runs and 2 wickets) and Luke 7-4-3-2 (yes that is 7 overs 4 maidens 3 runs and 2 wickets) strangled their batsmen with their accuracy as the number of overs bowled easily exceeded the number of runs scored by the end of their spells. Vish 7-1-17-1 and Sachin 5-0-27-1 then ensured the steady flow of wickets while keeping the runs in check, with the innings finally being polished off by Peter 3-2-5-3 (yes that is 3 overs 2 maidens 5 runs and 3 wickets) and Akshay taking the final wicket. The bowlers were backed up by a virtually flawless display in the field including 4 catches behind the stumps (yes that is FOUR catches by Jed - unbelievable!) and there was never any prospect of Bovingdon getting back in the game. Bovingdon closed their innings on 71 all out, which was less than our opening partnership by Paul and Alex. It was a very enjoyable game in which the only worry was the prospect of rain which thankfully stayed away.
