Toss: WIDMER END elected to bowl
Having lost the toss and been put into bat on a firm but drying track, Paul (15) and Alex(4) got us off to a wisely watchful start with Alex falling at the end of the 5th over with the score on 10. Scoring was tricky on slow wicket, Uma (11) joined Paul following Peter's exit (4) and nudged the score up to 34 before Uma just failed in his effort to reach the trees. Gaurav (19) and Paul got the score up to 68 before Paul dragged one on. David (20) certainly provided the mid innings acceleration but after he, Gaurav and Tom departed leaving the score on 83, what proved to be the crucial partnership of Ali (31) and Vish (20) came together. They took the total up to 122 before Ali was caught. Jamien (4) helped nudge the score up to 132 for the 9th wicket before closing on 148 all out with Vish selflessly run out on the last ball.
In reply, Widmer End were kept very subdued, as Vish (8-5-15-0) and Peter (8-4-18-2) bowled through their allotted overs with Peter taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. Uma (8-4-7-3) was outstanding taking 3 wickets for 7 runs in his 8 overs and along with Gaurav (8-1-35-2) kept the run rate very much in check. Jamien (4-0-17-1) and Tom (4-0-21-0) pulled the short straw as they came on in the 29th over, just as the batsmen were looking to up the scoring rate. As you can see from the figures, that didn’t go to plan for them with Jamien also picking up the key wicket of their opening bat and pretty much ending the chase. Uma and Gaurav returned for the final 4 overs as Widmer End closed on 136-9.
