Result: LOST by 55 runs
Toss: WE elected to bat
Today was why we play cricket - glorious sunshine, a hearty tea and a friendly opposition. The only thing missing was the result! Having been close in the first two games, today we were well beaten.
Having lost the toss and having to field, Vishal and debutant, Danish, kept it tight but without any luck. Both openers batted well, putting on 98 (only one fewer than we made!) for the first wicketbefore Areeb made the breakthrough. From then on, with tight bowling, wickets fell at regular intervals, until Widmer End were bowled out for a gettable (or so we thought) 154. Vishal, Ashay and Matt all chipped in with a wicket apiece, Uma got off the mark with 3-14, but the pick of our bowlers with Areeb who finished with 4-26 from his 8 overs. One of his wickets - think Shane Warne!!
Unfortunaley on a wicket that was slow and low, we never got going against the 'pace' attack of Widmer End. As has been the case so far this season, the slow. bowlers have taken the majority of the wickets and our innings was no exception. JH top scored with an unbeaten 24, with only Guarav (21) and Uma (19) reaching double figures, as we crawled to 99-9 from our 40 overs.
A defeat but there was good company for a beer at the end!
