Toss: CB elected to bat
Having won the toss and elected to bat on a damp and slowish wicket, Chesham Bois were soon on the back foot with Paul and Alex out relatively cheaply. Anshu (36) and Uma (9) steadied things before Uma was unluckily dismissed. We haven’t played Amersham Rangers before, they have now changed their name to Chiltern Warriers I think, but we do now know they like an enthusiastic appeal or two. Rajiv (7) was run out by a direct hit and of the remaining batsmen, only Tom shone with a well constructed 11 before falling victim lbw to a low skidder, leaving us all out for 101.
The reply seemed like being a formality as the opening pair looked to attack our bowlers. Sachin (4-1-24-1), who had one of their openers brilliantly caught one handed by Anshu at short mid wicket, and Vish (4.2-0-18-0) were replaced by Rajiv (7-0-19-1) and Uma who immediately exerted a bit of control but they still looked comfortable. Uma spiced the game up a bit by taking a hat-trick in one over leaving them 6 down and 20 runs short with Uma finishing with 7-1-19-4. Sadly only 1 further wicket fell to Akshay (3-0-15-1) as they got over the line.
It was a loss but relatively close with several aerial shots by their players landing agonisingly just out of reach of our fielders. On another day we might just have got there.
