Toss: Harrow Wayfarers elected to bat
Originally down as a game against Gt Kingshill, the opposition thankfully morphed into Harrow Wayfarers, with a couple of Kingshill players. So, welcome to a very friendly new team, one we would like to keep as a fixture going forward.
Another loss but some good performances along the way. Having lost the toss and been put into field, Sajid (7-1-28-0) and Vish (6.3-0-26-2) kept them reasonably quiet in their opening spells. Saad (6-1-16-1) bowled amazingly with great control in his two spells and along with Peter (8-1-39-3) and Uma (6-0-25-4) we started to run through their wickets quite easily. We were slightly caught between keeping the pressure on or giving ourselves a reasonable total to chase at this point and unwisely, as it transpired, chose the latter. Their 9 and 10 scored 55 and 27 before Peter, Uma, Sajid and Vish returned to close their innings on 196 which was a little higher than hoped.
In reply, Alex fell early to one which cut back off the pitch. Paul (18) and Peter (9) looked comfortable until Peter feathered one to the keeper down the leg side. Gaurav (22) showed signs of his old fluency and along with Uma (57) kept us up with the rate. When Gaurav and David (8) departed with the score on 100, Ali (12) and Uma kept the score ticking along. Uma and Ali perished which left Sajid (20) and Vish to get us over the line which sadly didn’t happen. The final pair of Saad and Jed needed to get over 40 to win and the innings closing on 154. The skipper contributing his usual 0 not out!
