Toss: CB elected to bat
This was the opening game of our season on our newly laid square. Thanks to everyone who helped get the ground and wicket ready in time.
Having unexpectedly won the toss it was a bit of a 50:50 call as to whether to bat or not on the new wicket. Having decided to bat, the wicket initially proved a little unpredictable with many balls keeping low and the extras column scoring well. Paul and Alex batted cautiously and whilst not setting the scoreboard on fire, kept our wickets intact. Alex departed with the score on 63 and was briefly joined by Gaurav before Uma came to the crease. Paul was out for a well crafted 52 with the score on 118. Ali (35) chipped in with some quick runs before David (16) and Roshan joined Uma for the final overs. Uma finished on a very handy and sometimes brutal 79 not out in our 233 for 5 total..
In reply, Vish (8-1-26-2) and Sajid (8-0-37-2) opened our attack along with Peter (8-0-30-0) and Roshan (8-0-39-1) working through the middle overs. The wicket seemed to be playing a little truer as their innings progressed and whilst the Misfits always seemed to be keeping themselves interested in the game, they were never allowed to get away as regular wickets interrupted their innings. Uma wasn’t satisfied with his 79 not out with the bat and returned figures of 4-2-2-2 in his short bowling spell backed up by a couple of wickets from Gaurav (5-0-37-2). Vish and Sajid returned at the end to mop up the rest of their innings leaving them 47 runs short.
