07/08 v Chiltern Warriors (Away)

Updated: Aug 12

Result: Lost by 74 runs

Toss: CHILTERN WARRIORS elected to bat

Spot the wicket!! It's the brown bit!!

Having last the toss, Chesham Bois were put into field on a hot and sunny day. Wickets were hard to come by with Matt (8-0-47-1) getting an early breakthrough. Arjun (8-2-38-0) partnered Matt at the other end as Amersham were kept relatively quiet, scoring 27 in their first 10 overs. Sajid (5-0-28-0) and Aaryan (3-0-31-0) began to feel the effects of their attempt to accelerate the score. Rajiv (4-0-32-1) removed their second batsman the score on 131 as Gaurav (7-0-51-1) despatched the last wicket to fall on 183 with Uma (5-1-35-0) completing the bowling line up. The total we faced was a challenging 275 but we had scored over 280 a couple of weeks ago. Not our best fielding display, a couple of catches going down and quite a few miscued shots landing tantalisingly just out of reach.

In reply Rajiv was joined by Sajid who was promoted to the dizzying heights of opening bat from his usual lower order position. He made full use of his new status as he ended the innings on 89 not out expertly marshalling what would be a slow and steady stream of wickets at the other end. Rajiv and Alex departed early before Uma (13) left a little too much of his leg stump showing. Gaurav (12), David (11), Aaryan (6), Arjun (14) and Sachin (3) never quite got going getting out. The returning Matt at number 10 seemed to be enjoying himself as he plundered 25 not out including 2 sixes and 2 fours as we finished our 40 overs on 201-8. A good score which we’d be happy with most weeks but sadly a little short on this occasion.
