Result: Lost by 80 runs
Toss: DENHAM elected to bat
Having lost the toss and made to field, Vish and Hussain (1-32) opened our attack with Vish (3-18) making the early breakthroughs. Their numbers 4 and 5 settled in after this and despite the best efforts of attack. Akshay (0-57), Jamien (0-33) and Matt (0-24) all did their best to dislodge them in the middle overs. With the retirement of their centurion batsman, Uma (1-30) and Gaurav (2-28) made inroads into their batting line-up and the returning Vish and Hussain mopped up the last two wickets to fall leaving us with 242 to chase. We were a little rusty in the field at times, but the standard of catching was excellent with only a sharp slip catch and a fingertip chance getting away. 2 great catches, one in the deep by Akshay that came down with ice on the ball, a rapid return catch by Vish along with a nice catch by Ali behind the stumps even though he wasn’t necessarily sure which part of his body had caught it.
In reply JH and Alex got us off to a steady start against some good bowling before Alex fell for 11. JH went for 16 having got us past the 50 mark with Ali departing for a top scoring 31 with the score on 80. Uma (28) and Gaurav (27) forged a middle innings partnership with Akshay (17) gluing together the tail with only Hussain (9) threatening double figures as we closed on 162 all out in the 40th over.
The figures for this one are a bit woolly as we ended up with a hybrid scoring system between online using play-cricket and a manual scorebook.
