04/09 v Widmer End (Away)

Result: Lost by 7 wickets

Toss: WESM elected to bowl

Having lost the toss, Chesham Bois were put into bat. Rajiv opened with Gaurav but we were quickly 2 down as Rajiv and Alex were soon back in the pavilion. Uma joined Gaurav and they set about steadying the ship with a 94 run partnership. At the halfway point, Chesham Bois were handily placed on 106-2. Gaurav was out for a very handy 74 in the 22nd over and this started a run of steady wickets as no-one other than Paul (19) came to grips with the wicket. Uma fell just shy of his 50 for 47 with the score on 125 and Sachin departed at 128. Ollie and Areeb, who both starred with the bat last week, followed with the score on 130 and 137. Paul was out with the score on 145 followed by Akshay at 148. Jed was the final wicket to fall closing on 158 in the 37th over. A decent score but should have been better given where we were at halfway.

In reply, Widmer End got off to a steady start with Akshay (6-0-29-0) and Jamien (8-1-18-1) keeping it tight with Jamien removing one of their openers. The well worn ‘catches win matches’ phrase came to mind as a few went down that on another day we would have hoped to take. Ollie (6-0-24-0) and Uma (7-1-14-0) hauled the run rate back but Widmer End always had wickets in hand for any required acceleration. Rajiv (6-0-32-1) then partnered Ollie in attack taking a welcome wicket, whilst the returning Uma and Areeb (4.4-1-31-1) bowled the final overs as Widmer End got across the line in the 38th over.

A disappointing loss, but another enjoyable game against the great crowd over at Widmer End.
