03/09 v Denham (Away)

Updated: Sep 4, 2023

Result: WON by 91runs

Toss: CB elected to bat

Having thankfully won the toss, The Bois elected to bat on a hot sunny day. Paul (25) and Alex(60) got us off to a steady start before Paul fell with the score on 67. A watchful Luke joined Alex and together they push the score past the 100 mark with Alex retiring hurt on 57 after recording his second half century of the season. The score was on 133 when Uma was unluckily stumped for a brisk 28. Scoring wasn’t proving to be that easy as Ali (13) and Ollie (29) kept pushing the score along. Wickets fell steadily after that leaving the skipper and the returning Alex to face the final over. The Bois batted out their 40 overs and closed on 219 for 9, a good score but we had been hoping for 250 at one point.

Luke’s strategic skills were employed as he was given the task of organising the Chesham Bois reply. Peter (8-2-17-2) and Vish (7-1-29-1) bowled first and quickly confirmed that batting wasn’t easy on this wicket. Luke changed and rotated the bowlers in a way that was not only highly effective, but also made it impossible for me to remember exactly who was bowling when and where (a normal occurance!). The miserly Ollie (8-2-17-2) , who followed up his 29 with the bat, replaced Peter and Vish was replaced by Uma (7-1-25-2) after he had completed his spell. Areeb (7.2-1-28-2) replaced Uma, the only other bowler being used was Luke (1-0-5-0) himself as he bowled one over to shuffle the attack around. Denham were always behind on the run rate, but we know what a strong batting side they are. Having made the initial breakthroughs, wickets fell steadily making an acceleration by Denham less and less likely. With ten overs left the run rate required was over 12 an over, and the final Denham wicket fell in the 38th over with the score on the 128. Another good win with a great fielding performance with catches for Gaurav, Luke and Uma and a stumping, catch and all round acrobatic display from Ali in his final game for us this season (only 2 byes!). Luke added a run out to the wicket column with a diving half stop at mid on, scrambling back to his feet and launching a direct hit at the keeper’s end to cap off a really well executed marshalling of the troops.
