RECORDS: 314 is the third highest score in the Club's history and the third time we have passed 300 this season.
Guarav and Uma's third wicket partnership of 247 breaks the record for the third wicket of 191 set in 2003. It also equals the club record partnership of 247 for the second wicket.
Having won the toss, Chesham Bois elected to bat. Gaurav was parachuted into the opening spot with Paul. Paul(9) was LBW early on with the score on 15 and Alex followed soon after caught off a leading edge. This bought the familiar pairing of Uma and Gaurav together and they weren’t to be separated until the score reached 262, a record equalling 247 run partnership. Gaurav made 114 in his usual style, happy just to nudge the singles here and there. That was a complete lie by the way, as Gaurav actually bludgeoned the ball to all parts of the ground. With him and Uma batting, there was a serious danger that we were going to run out of balls to play with as boxes of spare balls were being emptied to try and keep up. Uma, in similar style, agonisingly went 1 short of his 150. Karthik(1), Chamal(7) as well as Sachin and Bennett did their best to try to follow that and play out the last few overs. 314-6 off 40 overs, another useful total.
In reply, Sachin(8-0-54-2) and Karthik(6-0-38-1) had the dubious honour of opening our attack against the free scoring Lee. Their mission was accomplished as Karthik accounted for one of their openers and Sachin the other including a return catch whose speed was threatening the sound barrier. Gaurav(8-1-52-1) and Chamal(6-0-46-2) were next in line and kept the scoring both below the required rate as well as taking regular wickets. Their no 3 bat, who eventually made 122, was still there and Uma was drafted in to sharpen the attack. Uma, as usual, delivered, removing the no 3 on his way to figures of 7-1-29-1. Atiksh(2-0-13-0), Kavin(2-0-21-0) and Bennett(1-0-7-0) got a few handy overs in at the end to leave The Lee on a very creditable 264-7 off 40 overs, a score which we’d be happy about pretty much every game, although for perspective, Gaurav and Uma alone scored 263 off the bat!!
