Toss: DENHAM elected to bat
We came second in this match against a fairly strong Denham side. Having lost the toss on a hot sunny day, Denham unsurprisingly chose to bat. Akshay(8-0-55-0) and Shebna(7-1-38-1) opened our attack with Shebna removing one of the openers. Uma(7-0-58-1) had a couple of overs trying to pry out the other opener before Luke(8-0-42-2) and Areeb(8-0-48-2) handled the middle overs, dragging the scoring rate back and removing 4 wickets in the process. Sahil(2-0-14-0) had a couple of overs before Shebna and Akshay returned to bowl the final overs. Denham closed on 259-5.
In reply, Paul(8) fell early and Luke(39) was joined by Areeb(24). With the score on 75, our chase took a bit of a hit as both Luke and Areeb were out, Luke attempting to clear the boundary rope with a shot that would have easily cleared the trees at the common but a little short at Denham. Suresh(12) was joined by Uma taking the score onto 94. Sahil(6) and Shebna(1) helped get the score up to 135 before Akshay(4) and Sachin(4), along with Uma, got the score up to 162. Uma was the last wicket out for 55, caught again on the boundary, in pursuit of an untenable total by this point. We ended up on 165 all out. In the 39th over One of our heavier defeats this year, but the side did contain a few players returning from time away from the game so we were not at our sharpest with bat or ball.
